eu travel tech Letter to Commission President von der Leyen on the Need to Enforce the DMA Decisively

On 27 November, eu travel tech sent a letter to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, urging the new Commission to prioritize fair digital markets and the effective enforcement of the Digital Markets Act (DMA).

We highlighted the importance of building on the achievements of the previous Commission, particularly the DMA’s role in tackling anti-competitive practices. However, enforcement remains a challenge. Eight months into the investigation of Alphabet’s non-compliance with the DMA’s self-preferencing ban, no preliminary findings have been issued. Google’s continued promotion of its own services through its dominant search engine harms competition, limits consumer choice, and undermines innovation.

We called on the Commission to dedicate sufficient resources to enforce the DMA swiftly and decisively. Fair digital markets depend on it, and we are confident that under President von der Leyen’s leadership, the EU will continue to set the global standard for fairness and innovation in the digital economy.
